The kitchen is the most dangerous place in the home for child burns. Most children's burns we treat at BEIT TARIQ Center occur in the kitchen and can be prevented with simple measures.
Essential Prevention Measures:
- Turn pot handles inward: Make pot and pan handles face backward over the stove, not outward where a child can pull them down.
- Use back burners: When cooking with children present, use the rear stove burners.
- Install a kitchen safety gate: Especially when the child starts walking — prevent entry during cooking.
- Never carry a child while cooking: Or carrying hot liquids — one moment of imbalance can cause disaster.
- Check food temperature: Test milk or food temperature on your wrist before serving to the child.
- Keep kettles and thermoses away: Place them high out of children's reach with cords wrapped up.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we believe prevention is better than cure. We offer family awareness programs about child burn safety. Share this information with everyone who has young children.
