Burn dressing changes are considered one of the most painful procedures in burn medicine, and effective pain management is a top priority for our team at BEIT TARIQ Center. We do not accept patients suffering unnecessary pain.
Pain Management Strategies:
- Pre-procedure analgesics: We administer oral or intravenous painkillers 30-60 minutes before dressing change to ensure medication effectiveness.
- Local anesthesia: Topical anesthetic creams like lidocaine are applied to the area to reduce surface pain.
- Choosing appropriate dressings: Modern dressings like Mepilex are designed with gentle silicone technology that does not stick to the wound, making removal significantly less painful.
- Soaking technique: In some cases, we soak the old dressing in warm saline solution before removal to soften it and prevent adhesion.
- Distraction techniques: Especially for children — music, video, games, and deep breathing notably reduce pain perception.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we work to make the dressing change experience as painless as possible. Some of our child patients no longer fear visits thanks to our gentle approach.
