Comfortable sleep with burns is a major challenge for patients, but there are effective strategies that can notably improve sleep quality, which is essential for accelerating healing.
Tips for Comfortable Sleep:
- Elevate the affected area: Use pillows to raise the burned limb above heart level — significantly reduces nighttime swelling and pain.
- Take painkillers before bed: Take your painkiller dose 30 minutes before bedtime so it's effective when trying to sleep.
- Evening antihistamine: Tablets like diphenhydramine reduce itching and aid sleep.
- Room temperature: Keep the room cool — heat increases itching and discomfort. Use air conditioning or a fan.
- Soft bedding: Use soft, high thread-count cotton sheets. Avoid rough fabrics.
- Sleeping position: If the burn is on the back — sleep on your side or stomach and vice versa. Use pillows to support the position.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we always ask our patients about their sleep quality and adjust the medication plan as needed. Good sleep accelerates healing and improves mood and ability to cope with treatment.
