Burn infection is one of the most dangerous complications that can occur, potentially turning a simple condition into a life-threatening one if not treated early. Early recognition of infection signs is essential to prevent serious complications.
Signs of Burn Infection:
- Increasing redness and swelling: Expanding redness around the burn indicates advancing infection.
- Green or yellow discharge: Foul-smelling pus from the wound is a clear sign of bacterial infection.
- Elevated temperature: Fever above 38°C indicates systemic infection.
- Increasing pain instead of improvement: Escalating pain after day three is a concerning sign.
- Change in wound color: Base of burn changing from healthy pink to brown, black, or green.
- Red streaks: Red streaks extending from the burn toward the heart (lymphangitis) — an emergency condition.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we perform bacterial swabs and blood tests when infection is suspected to identify the bacteria type and select the most appropriate antibiotic. Do not delay visiting us when any of these signs appear.
