Comprehensive diabetic foot screening is a systematic, organized assessment performed by a specialist for early detection of any problems before they develop into ulcers or serious complications. It is the most powerful preventive tool available.
What the Screening Includes:
- Visual examination: Foot shape, skin color, cracks, calluses, toe deformities, nail condition.
- Sensation testing: 10g Monofilament test — a thin filament pressed on specific points. Not feeling it means loss of protective sensation.
- Vibration testing: 128 Hz tuning fork on the big toe — tests deep nerves.
- Circulation assessment: Palpating foot pulses (dorsalis pedis and posterior tibial), ABI index, foot color and temperature.
- Musculoskeletal exam: Joint range of motion, muscle strength, checking for Charcot signs.
- Footwear assessment: Examining patient's current shoes — whether appropriate or causing pressure.
Recommended Frequency:
Annually for all diabetic patients. Every 3-6 months for those with risk factors. Monthly for those with history of ulcers or previous amputation.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we perform this screening precisely and systematically and document results for comparison with subsequent visits.
