Dry skin on the diabetic foot is not a cosmetic problem but a real medical issue — dry, cracked skin is an open gateway for bacteria and infection. Choosing the right moisturizer and using it correctly significantly reduces this risk.
Best Moisturizer Types:
- Urea creams 10-25%: First choice — urea attracts moisture and softens thick, scaly skin. Start with 10% and increase gradually.
- Lactic acid creams: Excellent alternative — moisturizes and gently removes dead surface layer.
- Petroleum Jelly: Excellent barrier preventing moisture loss but does not add moisture. Use with another moisturizer.
- Ceramide creams: Rebuild the natural skin barrier damaged by diabetes.
Correct Usage:
Apply moisturizer twice daily after washing and drying the foot — morning and evening. Massage gently in circular motions until fully absorbed. Avoid between toes — moisture there causes fungal infections. Use antifungal powder between toes if you sweat.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we recommend specific products based on each patient's skin condition and provide them at our clinic.
