What tests should be done for hair loss?

Hair loss testing requires a comprehensive panel because causes are multiple and overlapping — one test isn't enough.

Essential Tests:

  • CBC: Detects various types of anemia.
  • Ferritin: Most important — we want above 40 ng/ml for hair health (not just above 15).
  • Vitamin D: Should be above 30 ng/ml — usually low in Jordan.
  • TSH (Thyroid hormone): Detects hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
  • Vitamin B12: Essential for cell growth — deficiency common in vegetarians.
  • Zinc: Essential element for hair, nail, and skin health.

Additional Tests Based on Case:

  • Testosterone and DHT: For men with androgenetic alopecia.
  • Female hormones (FSH, LH, Estrogen): For women with menstrual irregularities.
  • DHEAS: Adrenal hormone — elevated in some female hair loss cases.
  • ANA: To rule out autoimmune diseases (lupus).
  • Fasting glucose and HbA1c: Diabetes affects hair growth.

At BEIT TARIQ Center, we offer a comprehensive hair loss test package at reduced price — results within 24 hours.
