An ingrown toenail progresses through three stages — treatment depends on the stage.
Stages:
- Stage 1 (Mild):
- Mild pain when pressing on the nail side.
- Slight redness and swelling.
- No pus — no granulation tissue.
- Treatment: Soaking + cotton + wide shoes — improves without surgery.
- Stage 2 (Moderate):
- Severe pain — mild pus.
- Clear swelling and redness.
- Beginning of excess tissue growth (Granulation tissue).
- Treatment: Antibiotics + may need a minor procedure.
- Stage 3 (Severe):
- Heavy pus — large granulation tissue covering part of the nail.
- Severe pain preventing walking.
- Chronic recurrent inflammation.
- Treatment: Partial or complete procedure to remove nail edge + root cauterization.
The Rule:
The earlier you treat, the simpler and faster the treatment. Don't wait until Stage 3.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we accurately determine the stage and treat with minimal intervention possible.
