Histopathology is the analysis of a tissue sample under the microscope by a pathology specialist. It reveals tissue nature — normal, inflammatory, or neoplastic — and is the gold standard for diagnosis.
When Histopathology Is Ordered for Wounds:
- Non-healing wound without clear cause: Sometimes a "chronic wound" is actually skin cancer — especially if beyond 3 months without vascular or diabetic cause.
- Abnormal edges: Wound with raised, calloused edges or unusual-colored tissue.
- Suspicious mole: Change in size, color, or shape — melanoma risk.
- Lump or growth: Any removed lump is sent for examination — to rule out malignancy.
- Unique location ulcer: Ulcer in an unusual location or with atypical appearance.
Process:
- Sample taken (biopsy) — punch biopsy or incisional biopsy.
- Sent in formalin to the laboratory.
- Results within 5-10 days.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we don't ignore unusual wounds — we take a biopsy when suspicious because early diagnosis saves lives.
