Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an adjunctive treatment where the patient breathes 100% pure oxygen inside a high-pressure chamber (2-3 times atmospheric pressure). It dramatically increases dissolved oxygen levels in the blood.
How It Helps Wound Healing:
- Increased oxygen: Tissue oxygen levels rise 10-15 fold — oxygen is essential for all healing phases.
- Stimulates blood vessels: Promotes formation of new blood vessels (Angiogenesis) in the wound area.
- Fights infection: High oxygen kills anaerobic bacteria and enhances white blood cell activity.
- Reduces swelling: Decreases edema and improves microcirculation.
Sessions:
- Each session 60-90 minutes.
- Typically 20-40 sessions (5 days weekly for 4-8 weeks).
- Painless — patient sits or lies in the chamber.
Indications:
- Refractory diabetic foot ulcers.
- Radiation injury (post-radiation therapy).
- Chronic osteomyelitis.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we coordinate with HBOT centers and refer appropriate patients with joint follow-up.
