Proper post-suturing care is just as important as the suturing itself for the best cosmetic result.
First 48 Hours:
- Leave the original dressing as is — don't open it.
- Avoid getting it wet.
- Painkiller (Paracetamol) as needed.
After 48 Hours:
- Gently wash the wound with water and mild soap.
- Pat dry — don't rub.
- Apply thin layer of antibiotic ointment (Fusidic acid).
- Cover with clean dressing.
After Suture Removal:
- Steri-Strips: Applied across the scar for 1-2 weeks — prevent stretching.
- Silicone gel: Applied twice daily for 3-6 months — scientifically proven to reduce scars.
- SPF50 sunscreen: On the scar when going out — sun causes permanent pigmentation.
- Scar massage: After one month — two minutes twice daily with vitamin E oil.
Avoid:
- Swimming and vigorous exercise for first two weeks.
- Stretching the wound or lifting heavy weights.
- Direct sun exposure.
