Gout Treatment

What foods are forbidden and allowed for gout patients?

Diet plays an important role in controlling uric acid levels — reducing purines reduces attacks.

Foods to Avoid (High Purine):

  • Organ meats: Liver, kidneys, brain — highest purines.
  • Red meats: Beef, lamb — in large quantities.
  • Seafood: Sardines, anchovies, mussels, shrimp.
  • Sweetened beverages: Fructose juices and soft drinks.
  • Alcohol: Beer especially — significantly raises uric acid.

Safe and Beneficial Foods:

  • Low-fat dairy: Lowers uric acid — yogurt, low-fat milk.
  • Vegetables: All are safe including spinach and cauliflower (previously wrongly forbidden).
  • Fruits: Cherries especially — scientifically proven to reduce attacks.
  • Legumes: Chickpeas, lentils, beans — safe in moderation.
  • Coffee: 2-3 cups daily may lower uric acid.
  • Water: 2-3 liters daily — helps kidneys excrete uric acid.

At BEIT TARIQ Center, we provide a detailed dietary plan suited to your Jordanian taste.
