Nutrition is an indispensable cornerstone in preventing and treating pressure ulcers. Malnutrition is the second most important risk factor after immobility, and addressing it noticeably accelerates healing.
Why Nutrition Matters:
- Skin needs protein and vitamins to continuously repair itself.
- Open wounds lose protein daily in exudate.
- The immune system needs nutrition to fight infection.
- Anemia reduces oxygen reaching the wound.
Nutritional Recommendations:
- Protein: 1.25-1.5 g/kg daily — eggs, meat, chicken, fish, labneh, legumes. High-calorie protein supplements if needed.
- Calories: 30-35 kcal/kg daily — healing needs energy.
- Vitamin C: 250-500mg daily — essential for collagen formation.
- Zinc: 15-25mg daily — supports cell division.
- Adequate fluids: 30 ml/kg daily — dehydration slows healing.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we assess nutritional status for every patient and recommend customized dietary plans and supplements.
