Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder in reproductive-age women — affecting 8-13% globally. Many don't know they have it.
Main Symptoms:
- Cycle irregularity: Infrequent periods (over 35 days) or absent. Irregular ovulation — affects fertility.
- Excess male hormones: Severe acne (especially chin and jaw). Excess facial, chest, and abdominal hair (hirsutism). Scalp hair loss (male pattern).
- Obesity: 50-70% of PCOS patients are overweight — especially around abdomen. Insulin resistance common.
- Oily skin: And persistent acne despite treatment.
- Dark patches: (Acanthosis nigricans) — on neck and armpits — insulin resistance sign.
Diagnosis:
Needs 2 of 3 criteria: cycle irregularity + elevated male hormones + multiple cysts on ultrasound.
Tests:
Hormones (FSH, LH, testosterone, DHEAS), fasting glucose and insulin, TSH, lipids.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we offer all PCOS tests in one visit with medical consultation.
