Hyperthyroidism means producing more hormones than needed — everything accelerates. Less common than hypothyroidism but more dangerous.
Symptoms:
- Rapid weight loss: Despite normal or even increased eating — metabolism too fast.
- Rapid heartbeat: Palpitations and irregularity — sometimes resembles panic attacks.
- Excessive sweating: And heat intolerance.
- Hand tremor: Persistent fine finger trembling.
- Nervousness and anxiety: Unexplained tension and quick irritability.
- Diarrhea: Increased gut motility.
- Muscle weakness: Especially in thighs — difficulty climbing stairs.
- Sleep disturbances: Insomnia despite fatigue.
- Eye changes: In Graves' disease — bulging eyes.
Common Causes:
- Graves' disease: Autoimmune — most famous cause.
- Toxic thyroid nodules: Lumps secreting hormones independently.
Diagnosis:
Low TSH + High T4 or T3 = hyperthyroidism.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we diagnose hyperthyroidism and identify the cause to select appropriate treatment.
