Clean Intermittent Catheterization (CIC) is the best method for long-term catheterization — the patient learns to catheterize themselves instead of having a permanent catheter.
How It Works:
- Patient inserts a thin catheter themselves 4-6 times daily (every 4-6 hours).
- Empties the bladder — removes the catheter — disposes it (single use).
- No urine bag — no permanent catheter — nearly normal life.
Who Needs It:
- Spinal cord injuries: Loss of neurological bladder control.
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS): Neurological weakness affecting the bladder.
- Advanced diabetes: Bladder neuropathy.
- After certain surgeries: Temporary bladder nerve damage.
Advantages:
- Far fewer urinary infections — significant difference from indwelling catheters.
- No visible catheter — patient dignity preserved.
- More freedom of movement.
- Can travel and work normally.
At BEIT TARIQ Center, we train patients on CIC with patience and professionalism until they master it.
