Circumcision for newborns and infants can be done completely safely in a clinic without needing a hospital. Older children may need a hospital for general anesthesia.
When Clinic Is Safe:
- Newborns (0-40 days): Ideal option — quick procedure (15-20 minutes) with local anesthesia.
- Infants (2-6 months): Safe — foreskin size is still small.
- Adults: Possible with local anesthesia if the patient is cooperative.
When Hospital Is Needed:
- Children after one year — usually need general anesthesia.
- Congenital anomaly present (Hypospadias).
- Bleeding disorders (hemophilia or low platelets).
Advantages of Clinic Circumcision:
- Lower cost.
- Comfortable and less stressful environment.
- No long waiting or hospital admission needed.
- Mother stays beside her child throughout.
