Circumcision

What are contraindications for circumcision and when should it be postponed?

Although circumcision is very safe, there are cases where it must be postponed or referred to ensure the child's safety.

Absolute Contraindications (Not Performed):

  • Hypospadias: Urethral opening not in normal position — foreskin is needed for later repair surgery.
  • Epispadias: Same reason.
  • Buried/Concealed Penis: Needs pediatric surgeon evaluation.

Relative Contraindications (Must Postpone):

  • Weight below 2.5kg: Or premature — wait until appropriate weight is gained.
  • Acute illness: Fever, infection, severe jaundice — treat first.
  • Bleeding disorder: Hemophilia, vitamin K deficiency — needs special preparation.
  • Blood thinners: Must be stopped before the procedure.

What We Do at BEIT TARIQ:

  • Full examination before the procedure.
  • Ask about family history of bleeding disorders.
  • Confirm vitamin K was given at birth.

At BEIT TARIQ Center, your child's safety comes first — if there's a contraindication, we explain and refer to the specialist.
